$8 million earned by Ukrainian freelancers during the second quarter of 2013 on oDesk
According to recently released data from oDesk, a global freelancer marketplace focused on helping businesses create and maintain websites, Ukrainian freelancers earned $8 million during the second quarter of 2013. Ukraine is now 4th worldwide and largest in Europe, when measured by total revenue earned. Worldwide, India, the USA and the Philippines top the list.
oDesk’s Matt Cooper, in his pre-conference interview prior to his October 2013 visit to IDCEE in Kiev, noted that Ukraine and Russia have always been “anchor countries” for oDesk when it comes to technology and revealed that the company’s own engineering team is largely composed of software developers from Russia and Ukraine.
Top software skills offered by Russians and Ukrainians are PHP, JavaScript, MySQL, HTML, jQuery, C#, C++ and Java.
Top project categories in Ukraine are Web Programming, Mobile app development, Desktop Apps, Mobile Web Development, eCommerce, Graphic Design, Mobile Apps QA, Scripts & Utilities, Software Quality Assurance, Interactive and UI Design.
Ukrainian freelancers work for projects based in the USA, Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Russia, France, the United Arab Emirates, Denmark and Sweden. According to this data, Ukrainian freelancers are more popular in Sweden and Russia and slightly less in Israel. Average hourly rate for a Ukrainian IT freelancer in that time period was $19.88.

Customers posting projects from Ukraine are not very common yet, but interestingly enough Ukraine is fifth fastest-growing client country.
oDesk's data generally confirms the previously released data from Elance.com that has ranked Ukraine #3 globally by the income level of Ukrainian freelancers.
