InnoTech 2016: Some Trends in IoT and Smart Tech Observed

Last Saturday, our Intersog team attended InnoTech 2016, one of Ukraine's largest events dedicated to innovations in robotics, digital health, IoT and Big Data. The 2nd annual forum of innovative technologies that took place in Kyiv featured speakers from some of the world's famous brands including Orange, Ericsson, SAP, Vodafone, Microsoft as well as NGOs such as NDI Foundation and others.

Intersog was among keynote speakers in eHealthcare panel. Our senior UX / UI designer Polina Karpenko took the floor to share Intersog's eHealth solutions development experience and some tips and tricks of how to build trust between healthcare client and a software development provider and how to establish proper communication in Health IT teams.

Here's a summary of our takeaways from the conference:

• Global IoT investments will amount to $1.3 trillion by 2019
• There will be 28 billion connected devices by 2021: 13 billion smartphones, tablets and PCs and 15 billion IoT devices
• IoT revenues will amount to $1.3 trillion and the IoT economic impact will account to $11.1 trillion globally by 2025
• 5G technology will boost IoT evolution by providing ubiquitous broadband experience. Key areas to be largely impacted by 5G are smart vehicles and smart infrastructure, media, critical control of remote devices and massive machine deployments.
• Ericsson and Volvo will launch 100 first driverless cars in Gothenburg in 2017
• According to Vodafone, 27% of all businesses globally already implement m2m solutions
• Key issues in home automation:
  • Vendor lock-in: lack of interoperability between a separate controller and a hit for each manufacturer
  • Hard to extend with custom hardware: closed ecosystem, high license fees, lack of documentation
  • Dependency on existing Internet infrastructure
  • High cost for simple setup
