Building a Web-based Supply Chain Solution for the Leading Automotive Manufacturer

Mitsubishi Motors has been one of the world’s leading automotive manufacturers in the market for over a century. With a global presence and many stakeholders, Mitsubishi relies heavily on its supply chain; naturally, timely improvements are paramount for the fluent functioning of a large corporation.

Experiencing inevitable frictions in the functioning of the supply chain, Mitsubishi needed some severe rework done on it. Intersog offered the right set of solutions to make sufficient improvements to ensure coherent cooperation between all stakeholders.

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation is one of the world’s largest automakers headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, Japan. Since 2016, the corporation has been a part of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance - the world’s third-largest automaker.

Challenge

Being a part of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance and a part of one of Japan’s largest industrial groups called Mitsubishi Keiretsu, the company deals with many suppliers, subcontractors, and partners worldwide. This, of course, increases the need for robust supply chain management.

Previously, Mitsubishi had to use numerous spreadsheets for all the different stakeholders, and those had to be updated manually, which resulted in synchronization issues, human errors, lack of coherent data representation, and general inefficiency of communication at different levels.

The legacy app used by Mitsubishi ran on the IBM AS400 server and was only partially automated, which did not suffice. What the corporation needed was a robust online supply chain solution that would encompass the entire logistics process, starting with auto parts and steel suppliers and ending with subcontractors and distributors. Mitsubishi did not want to change the system entirely but instead went for the overhaul option, and Intersog offered a web application integrated with a DB2 base that was already used on the IBM AS400 server. 

Results

Being one of the leading automotive manufacturers, Mitsubishi relies on a large number of stakeholders, and the efficient cooperation between all the involved parties is pivotal. The partnership between Intersog and Mitsubishi has reached its intended results as we’ve built a web-based supply chain management system.

It is a novel and efficient system that takes the best from the legacy system previously used by Mitsubishi, adds new features, and takes the whole supply chain management to a new level. Not having to duplicate the data, import it from multiple spreadsheets, or maintaining different databases for all the suppliers and stakeholders, Mitsubishi now saves a great deal of time and money.

We also enabled flexible permission settings that allow the right people to access the correct information, so stakeholders can only access the data they are supposed to access. The new system reduces the probability of human error, ensures the safety and security of data, fosters communication, and generally boosts the company's efficiency.
